How Do Torque Multipliers work ?
Torque Multipliers are similar to a car gearbox. By engaging first gear a high / low ratio provides a torque advantage or an amplified power result. Industrial torque multipliers operate in a similar way. By using a calibrated hand torque wrench on the input side we can both drive the multiplier and control the torque output.

Final torque is achieved by rotating or ratcheting a Hand torque wrench through the multiplier until your pre set torque is reached. Most wrenches have an audible" Click" to indicate this.

For Example a 10:1 Torque Multiplier.... Apply 10 Ft Lbs torque to the input side and achieve around 100 Ft Lbs at the output end. Its important however the torque wrench be calibrated to the multiplier used. Every multiplier has different friction factors effecting its output.
Torque Multipliers like pneumatic nut runners and High Torques require a push point or reaction point. This means a solid anchor point for the multiplier to secure itself and push off.

Advantages of a hand torque multiplier: Its the cheapest method to apply torque - No power needed - measured torque is better than a rattle gun.

Pre purchase Considerations: What is your torque requirement ? Do you require to use it for undoing, if so add 80% to your "do up" torque - Will it fit into / onto your application Height above and around the multiplier - Reaction push off point available ?- Will it be fast enough, is a pneumatic Nutrunner an option - Do you have a hand torque wrench that suits the range of the multiplier.
